Bonny Community Health Insurance Scheme (BCHIS) Study in Bonny Island, Rivers State

Client: Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG)

We conduct a comprehensive study aimed at evaluating the feasibility of introducing a community health insurance scheme (CHIS) on Bonny Island. The project included in-depth stakeholder engagements, such as interviews with over 400 community members and key stakeholders, to assess the community’s financial willingness and ability to contribute to the scheme.

Additionally, the study involved thorough assessments of both private and public health facilities to understand the existing healthcare infrastructure and its readiness to support the CHIS. We conducted an actuarial analysis to inform the scheme model and design. The findings provided critical insights into the financial, operational, and logistical requirements for the scheme’s implementation and directly informed the successful establishment of a sustainable CHIS on Bonny Island, Rivers State.”

Drivers of Health Insurance Enrolment in the Informal Sector in Lagos.

Client: PharmAccess Foundation

We conducted a qualitative research study to assess the informal sector’s awareness, perceptions, and enrollment determinants regarding the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme. The research utilized key informant interviews and focus group discussions across three levels: the state level (including artisanal coordinating ministries and the Lagos State Health Management Authority), the artisanal association leadership level (state and local government areas), and the membership level (community). The study focused on two key artisan groups—hairdressers (predominantly female) and auto mechanics (predominantly male)—across 10 local government areas.

The findings were disseminated to relevant stakeholders, providing actionable insights that informed the integration of the informal sector into the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme.”
