Enhancing Participants Engagement through the Journey of Orofacial Cleft (OFC) Caregivers in Nigeria and Ghana.
Client: University of Iowa / National Institute of Health
IHC implemented the study in Lagos, Nigeria and coordinated the implementation in Ghana. The comprises 40 participants, purposively selected from caregivers of children with OFC in both countries. We deployed the photovoice methodology. The participants were trained on the methodology, and basics of photography, and then given cameras as well as tracking sheets for data collection. At the end of the data collection period, participants then selected their best photographs that addressed the research questions and will participate in both the FGD as well as the photovoice exhibition to display the photographs taken as well as speak to the emotions behind the photographs.
Mitigating Impact on Neonatal Mortality through Remote Training.
Client: American Academy of Pediatrics / Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
IHC facilitated the delivery of remote, low dose high frequency skilled-based trainings in Borno, Yobe, and Gombe States. The pilot evaluated the efficiency and impact of remote training using the NeoNatalie Live (NNL) via helping babies breathe (HBB) and the HMBS platforms. We facilitated the sites’ setups and mentorship of the healthcare workers for 6 months. We collected baseline and endline data to measure the impact of the training model in the capacities of the healthcare workers in neonatal resuscitation and health outcomes.
A significant increase in health worker knowledge and practice of basic neonatal resuscitation skills. The average neonatal mortality rate and early neonatal mortality rate dropped from baseline. In addition, the neonatal mortality rate due to birth asphyxia and admissions to the neonatal care unit for asphyxia dropped in the training sites.
